Sample Phone Call Script

Delegate_____/Senator _____:

My name is ( ), I am a citizen of Virginia in (City, Zip). As you go into conference to negotiate the final budget, I ask you to fund additional waivers for the Priority 1 waiver waiting list.

There are over 3,000 Virginians with developmental disabilities in Priority 1, urgently in need of critical services. So far, the legislature is only proposing 825 waivers over the next two years. This is unacceptable, and we need more waiver slots now.

Virginia families cannot afford to wait any longer. Until Priority 1 is funded, we will not be able to serve individuals elsewhere on the waiting list – which has grown by over 1,000 since last Session, and is now over 12,000.

Funding Priority 1 is a proactive, fiscally prudent, pro-Virginia investment in community-based care for some of our most vulnerable citizens. Do not wait until citizens and families are in crisis; support these critical waiver services now, and save our Commonwealth and her taxpayers money while also supporting strong communities.

I call on you to Make Priority 1 the Priority. Support my family, and the countless other families like mine. Please include enough additional waivers to fully fund the Priority 1 waiting list. Thank you.
